The Definitive Guide: Updating Your RUC Data 2025 in Panama (Step by Step).

How to update your RUC (Taxpayer Registry) data on the DGI's e-Tax 2.0 portal, section by section: identification, tax address, tax obligations and linked third parties. Avoid fines for outdated or incorrect information.

Published in the source: Last date stated:

Are you a taxpayer in Panama? If so, you have surely heard about the update of the Registro Único de Contribuyentes (RUC, Panama's Single Taxpayer Registry) data that the **Dirección General de Ingresos (DGI, the General Directorate of Revenue)** has made mandatory for this year, 2025.

Ignoring this procedure can lead to unnecessary complications and fines. But do not worry — it is not as complicated as it seems. In this article, we will guide you step by step, in plain language, through the entire process on the **e-Tax 2.0** portal, so that you can meet your obligations without errors or stress.

What is this update, and why is it so important?

The DGI has launched this campaign to make sure that the information of all taxpayers (both individuals and companies) is correct and up to date. This helps to modernise the tax system and makes all your future procedures easier.

The DGI set August 31, 2025 as the original deadline for this update campaign; check on the e-Tax 2.0 portal whether the deadline is still open or has been extended. Failing to comply on time or providing incorrect information can result in fines ranging from B/.100.00 to B/.500.00.

Detailed Guide: Updating Your RUC on e-Tax 2.0

Below, we break down each section of the form so that you know exactly what information you need.

Section 1: General Information

This is the first and most extensive part of the form. Here you will confirm your identity and your main activity. It is divided into:

  • Taxpayer Identification: Verify that your RUC number, Check Digit (DV, Dígito Verificador) and your ID (cédula) details (issue and expiry dates) are correct.
  • Personal Data: Complete your name, date of birth, marital status and, very importantly, your email address. The DGI will use this email for all official notifications.
  • Business Activity: Indicate your occupation, your estimated annual income and the Type of Filer you are (Normal, MiPyME, etc.).

Section 2: Location Information

Here you will register your tax address. It is crucial that it be accurate in order to receive notifications.

  • Address: Select your Province, District and Corregimiento (township).
  • Details: Add the street, house or apartment number and, above all, a Descriptive Address with clear reference points (e.g.: "Blue building, next to the pharmacy").
  • Contact: It is mandatory to register at least one telephone number. We recommend adding both your landline and your mobile.

Section 3: Obligations

In this section, you must select the taxes and responsibilities that apply to you. Be very careful here!

  • Income Tax (ISR, Impuesto Sobre la Renta): The most common obligation for professionals and merchants.
  • ITBMS (Panama's VAT): If your annual income exceeds B/.36,000, you must register as a taxpayer for this tax.
  • Withholding Agent: If your company withholds taxes from third parties (such as 50% of the ITBMS from professionals), you must declare it here.

Section 4: Linked Third Parties

Do you have an accountant or a legal representative? This is where you must register them.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA, Contador Público Autorizado): If an accountant prepares your returns, you must add their RUC or ID (cédula).
  • Proxy (Apoderado): If a lawyer holds a power of attorney to represent you, they must also be included in this section.

Section 5: Submit the Application

Once all the sections are complete, you will reach the end.

  1. Click the "Submit Application" (Presentar Solicitud) button.
  2. A window will appear with a summary of all your information.
  3. Review everything very carefully! An error here can cause problems later on.
  4. If everything is correct, click "Formally Submit Your Application" (Enviar Formalmente su Solicitud). And that's it!
