> [!tip] Is your PPSH about to expire? Don't let the deadline slip
> The initial PPSH residence lasts two years; it then extends for up to six more. If yours expires soon, it pays to start the renewal early. At iurispa we prepare and file your renewal for you. [Message us on WhatsApp](https://wa.me/50761970238) to review your expiration date and requirements.

The **Humanitarian Security Protection Permit (PPSH)** does not end after two years. Whoever obtained the initial temporary residence can **extend it for up to six (6) additional years**, meeting the updated requirements. Across both stages, the PPSH offers a path of **up to eight years** of immigration stability while you build your life in Panama.

If you don't have the permit yet, start with our guide to the **[PPSH — requirements, costs, and deadline 2026](/guias/humanitarian-security-protection-permit-ppsh-panama/)**. This guide is for those who already hold it and are approaching expiration.

## When do you renew?

The extension is filed **before** your two-year temporary residence expires. Don't cut it close: gathering updated proofs, [apostilles](/guias/apostille-and-document-authentication-panama/), and records takes time, and filing the renewal while your permit is still valid keeps you from falling back into an irregular situation.

Rule of thumb: start gathering your documents **two or three months before** the expiration date shown on your card.

## What the renewal requires

Unlike the first application, the renewal is about proving you keep a real, regular tie to the country. The National Immigration Service asks for updated requirements, including:

1. Extension request filed through a legal representative.
2. Copy of the passport and of the valid PPSH card.
3. **Social-security proof (CSS)** or an **income-tax filing**, as evidence of regular economic or work activity.
4. Updated proof of address.
5. Valid criminal-record certificate, as Immigration may require.
6. Clearance of prior immigration obligations.

> [!note] Your exact requirements depend on your case
> The list can vary with your situation (employed, self-employed, family changes). In your assessment we review your file and hand you the final checklist, so you don't have to guess.

## Renewal costs

As with the first application, we show you upfront what the State charges and what the process costs. The official fees for the extension and the card update are confirmed at filing, per the National Immigration Service's current schedule; on top of that come professional fees and the file's expenses (notarizations, apostilles, certificates). In your assessment we give you a **fixed quote, with no surprises**.

## How we handle it for you

1. We check your card's expiration date and build the calendar to file on time.
2. We gather the updated proofs (CSS or income tax, address, background).
3. We prepare and file the extension request with the National Immigration Service.
4. We follow up until approval and delivery of your renewed card.
